Ability to set community content as public & SEO-discoverable
You'll be able to turn some of your documents public, so they'll appear in search results of all major search engines.
Goal here is to allow docs to serve as a lead gen hook for your community.

Could we also have this for events. Certain events could become the lead gen for joining the community.

Maarten van Rijn: Excellent suggestion! This would help immensely in term of enticing member prospects to join.

Maarten van Rijn: YES, THIS! But with an events page which shows all public events to anyone who visits, whether signed in or not

Murtaza Bambot — I'm eager to see this come to light! I would also use it as a premium benefit for upper-tier paid members. My community is for creator economy entrepreneurs — so this perk would give them a public member spotlight page with SEO linkbacks to their business/offer website and socials to boost their traffic and authority.

Hey Murtaza,
Please try to understand, this feature is very essential not only for us but you and your business as well. Did you know? Why Zendesk, Intercom and HubSpot are the market players? B'cos their Forum/Community and Knowledge Base are always there on the top in the Google Search result. Secondly, it'll also help Heartbeat in getting new paid users.

I hope this includes having our courses public facing! I would love to have the course area be viewable to people who aren't in my community yet and can join by purchasing a course.

Any ETA? This feature is a game changer to compete with Patreon and much more.

Google just announced new structured data markup for forums and profiles - https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-highlights-forums-profiles-with-new-structured-data/502301/ - it would be good to bake this in.

‘ProfilePage’ and ‘DiscussionForumPosting’ should provide a quick win for communities in SERPs because there is low competition when it comes to public forums on the web.
I'm not sure optimizing docs for SEO would bring as much value, as your content will be competing with the whole web.

I love this idea and would suggest to include an option of adding a call-to-action section with a button that leads to a sales page.

this should be extended to threads, courses, events

Nehal Shah: Circle does this. It becomes a public forum (with cleaner interface than discourse, and a ton fewer features for forums but still). HB should aim for this too. On this planned FR I don't get the feeling that we would get pubic forum functionality. That could be awesome, but perhaps too far away from the use case of private community with a mobile app.

Could this be extended to threads? Could certain threads have the ability to share them externally and have people view the post, even if they are not signed into the community?

Warren Gouin: I second that! It would be great to reverse the plans for this feature - an option that defaults to public and indexable with the possibility to make some content private (like course content for paid membership versions, for example).
SEO-discoverability was the #1 needed deal-breaker feature for my community and another similar one I advised. People need to be able to see the value and benefit from that value of the community before they will break through the friction of creating an account.
Even though Peerboard is not as slick and feature-packed, browsers could find it, so it fit the bill. It no longer works easily with the new version of the site I built, so I'm considering Heartbeat as a temporary solution, but I would love to use HB long term if almost all the content could be lead generating.
If I could only pick one content type, threads would be the most important to make discoverable.
