Instagram link in users profiles not taking me instagram, its just not working

Users should add their instagram account with the link ‘www.instagram.com/ ‘ and username, is this really the best way to do? what if they just add their username and your system automatically recognizes it? if no at least please make that button work. Thank youuuu!
