Make Trending/Upcoming "Advert" Box Optional

The newly added Trending/Upcoming scroll box at the top of the right hand side bar on desktop versions is visually distracting. It makes new notifications of posts and replies harder to see. Could this UI element be made optional for users or at least something the site admin can decide to disable for every one.
