I’d love the ability to assign moderation permissions to specific Access Groups and/or channels rather than moderation authority automatically extending across the entire community.
I’m building a community that functions more like a campus, with distinct spaces where different leaders may be responsible for facilitating and stewarding specific groups. For example, one person might oversee a particular cohort or “school” within the larger campus. I want them to have the permissions necessary to moderate and care for the people and content within their assigned spaces without giving them moderation authority elsewhere in the community.
Ideally, I could assign someone a Moderator role and then specify the scope of that role:
Mary → Moderator → Access Group A + Channels 1–3
Mary could moderate posts, conversations, members, and activity within those designated spaces, but her moderation permissions would not extend into Access Group B, another leader’s channels, or the broader community.
This would make it possible to build communities with distributed leadership while maintaining clear boundaries of responsibility and authority.
In a larger community, not every leader needs the keys to the whole campus. Sometimes they simply need the keys—and appropriate authority—for the rooms they’ve been entrusted to steward.
Would love to see group/channel-level moderation permissions added to Heartbeat.
