Thread image display issue
Here's an example of what I've been doing to make a thread title image at the top of my thread pages. There are definitely some various image display issues happening both in mobile & desktop. The display also gets messed up if there are multiple pinned posts. When I pin my post that has the image, the post shows with 2 images on desktop. I That fixes if I make another post. If I were to pin a 2nd post though, that puts the posts side-by-side, which breaks it looking like a banner. The images are also looking croppped on mobile instead of resizing down, so much of the image is cut off (which is why I resorted to doing these with just a small area of text in the middle.
Another bug: No matter where my cursor is in the thread, when I add an image, it always goes to the bottom of the thread & not where my cursor was. I'm able to cut & paste it where I want.

This also happens when linking to a document. I was testing out having a title image at the top of the doc, but when a thread links to it, the image gets cut off in the preview. Incidentally, the reason I was trying to add a title image to my docs is because when linking to a doc from a thread, it tries to display the first image in the doc as a preview image. Honestly, it would probably just be better if threads didn't display preview images for documents at all or we had the option to remove the preview image.

I was making a post in a Circle community & noticed they actually have some neat features in this area. You can make a thread title (I think we already have a feature request for this) and in addition to adding images to your post, you can add a cover image. I'm assuming cover image is what she uses in the 2nd picture here. It feels like only admins should be adding cover images though, not everyone but maybe that doesn't matter. Pic 1 is showing what it looks like when you're creating a post.

Pics are being cropped when posted to threads so you have to click again, just to see the full thing and wait for it to load. Square images are cropped the worse. Please implement auto scaling so our pics don’t look small, cropped and require an extra click and load just to see

This was completed a few months ago. Suggested thread header image is 1344x384 & the post can be pinned to have the image show above the creator's name (see My July 22, 2022 screenshot.

I noticed the pinned post is looking better on Android (no cropping). I haven't checked what's happening if there are multiple pinned posts.

I'm struggling with this image sizing issue as well. My community is artists so I want it to be colourful and aesthetically pleasing but the images being cropped in the pinned post is kind of ruining it.

Sue McLeod Ceramics: right now, 700px wide seems to work best right now for most displays but I know they're planning to work on this & give us new recommended image sizes.

Latest update on image sizing for making thread headers… I did some testing tonight. It looks like when you pin a post, any image you had in the post is now left-aligned on desktop & moved to the top (above your name). If you don't have the image sized quite wide enough, you'll notice more white space to the right of the image (picture 3). If you have the image sized too wide, it'll crop (if I'm remembering right). If you make your window smaller, the image will start cropping from the right, so you'll still be seeing the left side of the image (picture 2). On mobile (Android) there is some cropping happening also to approximately 415px wide, but it's centered. This makes putting text on the image a little difficult, but for my own purposes, I'm choosing to center the text to catch the masses who will probably be on their phones or have the window maximized on their desktop. If you unpin it, the cropping stops on desktop. Picture 1 shows with 700px wide, pinned post on desktop.

I noticed with whatever change was made that now when I pin a post, the image is forced to the top. In the case of this post I was trying to make, my image was a signature that needed to stay at the bottom. When I click to edit, it goes back to the bottom where it belongs. When I add an actual header/banner type image at the top, the pinned post stops displaying my signature anywhere, so it's not displaying both images. When I edit, the signature is still there. As an initial quick fix, I'd recommend just displaying images wherever they're put & not trying to force placement or do any type of cropping. Have the images resize appropriately for smaller screens. For a future fix/feature, I'd love for admins to be able to designate a cover image for each channel or by individual post (like I showed in the Circle example).
