It would be easier to mimic something similar to fb and add the abillity for admins and moderators to post and then @everyone so everyone gets the message.
Our issue is that some groups have complimentary memberships (which we give on a case by case basis) - but sharing the group names in a thread would create questions by our members. I agree the @everyone would be very helpful (especially if it's only able to be used by admins and moderators).

There is. You can @group members or the roles you assigned, like @admin. But I am not sure that members can do that.

Jock Brocas this was removed a while back by request because members were annoyed by other members tagging them too much. I would also like to be able to enable the feature or turn it off for moderators.
